Sure its only one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World!

Have you ever seen a picture or a screen shot of something beautiful and knew that you wouldn’t settle until you saw it in real life…in the flesh!? Have you ever watched a film and knew in your heart that one day you would stand right there, where the big screen is teasing you with!?

The Golden Gate Bridge did this to me (although I think it’s safe to say that my sister loves it more than me). I have been over many famous bridges like the beautiful Chain Bridge in Hungary and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Even the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City doesn’t hold a candle to San Francisco’s Golden Gate. Known famously for being in Godzilla, Just like Heaven, the Star Trek movies, The Pursuit of Happiness, Ms Doubtfire and many others.

This suspension bridge is one mile wide and 3 miles long and bridges US route 101 and California State Route 1 across the strait from San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. It has been declared as one the seven Wonders of the Modern World and has been deemed “possibly the most beautiful bridge in the world”, as well as being the most photographed. George Sterling once called San Francisco “The cold grey city of Love”! It’s easy to see why when standing on the bay looking out to sea.

We took a bus over the bridge to Sausalito (what a great name) and back to the bay again…just to say we had done it. We did what every other tourist does when crossing the bridge. We took photos, shouted over the unbelievable wind and took in the amazing scenery, views and Baker beach. I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to see this bridge in all its glory. If not for me but for my sister. It’s another piece ticked off my list!
